The Price of Gold Falls by 15%!
Over the last couple of weeks the news has been full of stories about how the gold market has taken an historic tumble. Once hailed as a sure and safe bet, "beloved of conservative German pensioners, Chinese speculators and Tea Party Republicans alike" gold has always been an investment failsafe.
We're sure that this is only a blip ( though hold our hands up to the fact that we know nothing about it's financial value, just that it looks lovely with a tan, makes leather goods instantly look premium, compliments mirrored glass...) and so would like to offer all a boost by offering 15% off all our prices in the month of May! Just type in GOLD at the checkout and 15% will be deducted off your bill.
To use the dictum of gold fanatics..."Markets Collapse, But Gold!!"

Gold Dresses for the 2013 Oscars
We're just slightly disappointed with the gold frocks ( or lack of) on show last night. Usually the Oscars highlight how amazing one can look in gold but this year not many were brave enough to give it a go.
Hats off to these three who did fly the flag. Catherine Zeta Jones looked exceptionally glamorous in her gilded golden Zuhair Murad creation. Naomie Harris looked striking in a dress that was apparently made from recycled materials ( zippers and chocolate wrappers - unusual) and Jessica Chastain rocked the 'Happy Birthday Mr President' look in her Armani Prive creation.
I think Heidi Klum should get the Gold Frock award however for the slinky number she wore to Elton John's party. Go Girl! Somehow she looks shocked that people should want to take her photo. The man with the phone is brazenly going in for a close up - we'll see that on Twitter...

The Golden Globes
This is one of our favourite celebrity events, for the obvious reason.
Good night for Ben Affleck and Argo, Daniel Day Lewis, our very own Adele, Les Mis - and I'm delighted that Homeland got an award as I've loved both series.
Really disappointed with the dresses though! Hardly any gold in sight. 'Lady Downton' had a touch of gold on her, but other than that everyone else went for red, white or black. Dull.

Metallic Geometric Wallpaper
Just flicking through February Livingetc. magazine for the latest looks and am really up for this new season trend. Geometric metallic wallpaper. They call it 'Luxe Lines - Combine Grecian, Egyptian and Moorish motifs by uniting them with coppery, glamorous base notes.' They've made a headboard out of the wallpaper on the right ( by Cole and Son) and have added effortless chic to a bedroom.
To be more experimental with wallpaper will be one of my ( many ) New Year Resolutions.

Kate Moss and the Book Launch
I'm sure the book is great and full of juicy stories about drugs, sex and rock 'n' roll but the only thing I'm really interested in is the dress. I love it. How amazing does she look? I know she could luck great in a hessian sack but still, she does look amazing in this slinky number. I'm not sure it would look quite as good on me...

Rylan sings 'Gold' on the XFactor
Well, what a showdown last night! I do love a bit of tension.
Poor old Rylan, Gary Barlow really isn't that keen on him.
Here at BeGolden we generally love all things gold but his rendition of a Spandau Ballet classic has definitely left us divided...
Strictly Come Dancing Kimberley Walsh vs Victoria Pendleton
It's the outfits that I love! All this gold shimmering sparkle is right up my street.
Apparently there is some friction between Kimberely and Victoria on this season's Strictly Come Dancing which is bound to increase viewing figures. Why do we love a good squabble? So very British.
A Stunning Gold Feature Wall
As featured on the website Design Hunter, this really is the most stunning feature imaginable.
It was created when a former Grade II listed methodist chapel was converted into a striking and contemporary modern home. In a nod to the property's ecclesiastical past the large open plan living area was given a striking 7 metre high 23 carat gold leaf wall, which reflects the changing light throughout the day and adds a warmth and richness to the design scheme.
Gorgeous.

Kate Middleton Goes Gold
What a sensational dress! We love it.
Made by Alexander McQueen, the gold and white dress was Kate's choice for the Malaysian state dinner - apparently the golden floral embroidery is meant to resemble Malaysia's national flower, the hibiscus.
How beautiful does she look.
We love Gold and we love Kate - perfect combo!

Gold Studded Accessories
They are all the rage! Everywhere you look at the moment you see gold studs. Gold studs on collars, on cuffs, on bags and as shown in these cute little black Zara pumps, even on shoes. Adds a bit of attitude. We're all for it.

Brocade goes Big this Autumn/Winter 2012
Every magazine I've read lately is featuring gold brocade. The fabrics are heavy and metallized and the look is so cool.
As they say on www.elle.com, 'Nothing gets a woman through the fall and winter weather like rich lavish fabrics and designs. From lace to velvet to brocade, fall runways exhibited the sleekest of styles for a season of luxe dressing'
Couldn't agree more.
Off to see Anna Karenina to get more inspiration.

Post Boxes Go Gold
What a fab idea! I love the Royal Mail's initiative to paint the post boxes in the home towns of Gold Medalists. Maybe this is the start of things to come. I'm thinking gold lines rather than yellow lines, gold lamposts, gold zebra crossings...we need more bling.

Opening Ceremony Outfits
Well these outfits caused a bit of a stir!
Within seconds Stella McCartney tweeted to make it quite clear that she designed the athletic wear and not the 'type of shellsuit that Jimmy Saville would be proud to wear' as one person called it. We love all things gold, but even we have to agree that these suits with the gold armpits and collars look at tiny bit Flash Gordon.
Still, if it inspires us to win loads of gold medals then we're behind the chioce every step of the way.

Olympic Gold Medals
We're getting very excited about the Olympics here at BeGolden HQ - all this talk about 'Gold'! We're loving it!
It's the gold medals that interest us most (I don't think we're alone here).
Did you know - and I'm sounding like my Dad here - that the medals are designed every event by the hosting country? This time they have been created by David Watkins and produced at the Royal Mint in Llantrisant, South Wales. The second fact of the day is.....the gold medal is madeup of 92.5% silver!! Only 1.34% of it is gold and the remainder is copper. I can't see anyone complaining, but this does seem a bit stingy. More gold is what we say.
